Grand Re-Opening of TCR Has Downtown Restaurant Owners Celebrating.
CEDAR RAPIDS – Theatre Cedar Rapids isn’t the only place that’s hopping downtown tonight.The theatre’s return has restaurants making way for more customers.
Restaurants in the heart of downtown Cedar Rapids are craving customers. Post-flood business isn’t picking up as quickly as owners would like.
A lack of evening entertainment options is keeping people from coming downtown.
“We live and die by the Cellular Center, the theatre, the Paramount. We’re just counting the time until everyone gets back up and running,” said Cody Fritz of Gringo’s Mexican Restaurant.
Cross the US Cellular Center and now Theatre Cedar Rapids off that list.
“This is what downtown restaurants have been waiting for…the crowds, the excitement, and these theatre goers are sure to have a hearty appetite.”
TCR’s return to Third Street Southeast will likely help some restaurants survive these tough economic times.
“It means we are going to be okay, be able to grow, be alright, which is great,” said Amy Wyss, Zin’s Restaurant.
Zin’s just hired several part-time employees since workers will be selling drinks and hor d’ourves inside the theatre.
And the restaurant itself is only a block away. Gringo’s Mexican Restaurant is just as close and equally excited.
“We’re just happy to feed as many folks as we can down here.”
The Blue Strawberry might not see as many theatre goers, but the owner says downtown events are profitable.
“The fact we’ve had all the activity downtown, especially now with the theatre opening, it’s a real positive step toward the recovery process,” said Mike Monnahan, The Blue Strawberry.
